Toco Lifting is an approved Lifting Machinery Entity, LME No. 008, under Driven Machinery Regulation 18(5) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993, with technical oversight by Anton van Staden, an ECSA-registered Lifting Machinery Inspector (Reg. #201112078). Chain blocks are one of the five equipment categories on that approval, so a Taurus chain block can be repaired with the correct parts and legally recertified by the same company, without being sent to a separate testing house.

Toco repairs chain blocks, lever hoists and hoists in house at the Germiston head office and the Cape Town branch. A block is stripped and assessed, worn components are replaced, and the unit is load tested and recertified before it returns to site. Servicing addresses wear before it becomes a failure, and keeps the block in safe working condition across its lifespan.
Lifting tackle must be re-inspected every three months under Driven Machinery Regulation 18(10)(e) of the OHS Act, and Toco recertifies following inspection. Where a Performance (Load) Test Certificate is issued, it is valid for twelve months.
Testing is carried out on Toco's own equipment: a 200 ton proof bench at the Germiston branch, with load cells SANAS calibrated to 100 tons. Full detail of the testing scope is on the Lifting Equipment Testing & Certification page.
Taurus chain blocks comply with SANS 1594, the standard covering the manufacture, structural design and performance testing of manually operated chain blocks, and run load chain complying with SANS 1592. SANS 500 governs the inspection, testing and examination of hand-operated chain blocks and lever hoists in use. Replacing worn components with the correct parts is what keeps a block performing to those standards.

Taurus chain blocks are medium-duty chain blocks ergonomically designed for maximum output efficiency and safe operation and fitted with an OLL (overload limiter).
