Lashing chain. Grade 70 to SANS 52195-3 is the lashing standard and where an enquiry usually begins. Grade 80 and Grade 100 are supplied where a client prefers them; the application and the requirement vary from client to client.
Weld-on lashing points. Taurus weld-on D-rings, for building a rated securing point onto a trailer bed, skip, frame or bin where none exists. Supplied in two sizes, WLL 2 t and WLL 3 t, with the Working Load Limit forged into the ring.
Everything in this category restrains a load against movement in transit. None of it is rated to lift or suspend a load, and none of it should ever be pressed into that service. If the job involves picking the load up, it needs rated lifting tackle, supplied and certified for lifting.
The other thing worth knowing before you buy is how straps are advertised. A strap sold as a five tonne strap is often quoted at breaking strain, and its Working Load Limit may be a third of that or less. Size by Working Load Limit every time, and if a supplier will only quote breaking strain, treat that as the answer to a different question.
Call 011 345 8800 or email [email protected] with the load, the distance and the tie down points.
Breaking strain is the load at which the strap fails. Working Load Limit is the load at which it is rated to operate safely in service, with a designed margin between the two. A strap advertised as a five tonne strap may be quoted at breaking strain and have a Working Load Limit of only 1.6 tonnes or less. Always size by Working Load Limit. If a supplier quotes only breaking strain, ask for the WLL.
25 mm rated 1 ton, 50 mm rated 4 ton, 75 mm rated 9 ton and 100 mm rated 12 ton Working Load Limit, in standard 4 metre and 9 metre lengths with longer available on request.
No. Ratchet straps, tie downs, load binders and lashing chain are cargo securing equipment. They are designed to restrain a load against movement in transit, not to lift or suspend it. Lifting requires rated lifting tackle supplied and certified for the purpose.
Toco supplies ratchet and tie down straps to SANS 52195-2. The webbing is polyester throughout and hardware is drop forged.
Ratchet and lever type load binders are used with 10 mm and 13 mm transport chain. Toco supplies the binders and the matching lashing chain. Grade 70 to SANS 52195-3 is the lashing standard and the usual starting point; some clients prefer Grade 80 or Grade 100 and Toco supplies those too.
