Steel wire rope slings in single, double, triple and quadruple leg and eye and eye configurations, made to order from 6 mm to 56 mm rope, to your specified length and rated working load limit.
Cable laid grommets are endless slings formed from one complete cut to length wire rope, joined by a Hawser splice. There is no termination hardware. Standard rope is 6x36 IWRC at 1960 MPa, body diameters run from 33 mm to 100 mm, and working load limits reach 119 ton on a vertical hitch. Grommets are made to any tonnage and length to suit a specific lift.

Scope and certification
Steel wire slings are one of the five equipment categories on Toco's Department of Labour approval, LME No. 008, under Driven Machinery Regulation 18(5) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Assemblies are supplied with a Conformance Inspection Certificate and full traceability from the rope to the certificate. Proof load testing is carried out on a 200 ton proof bench at the Germiston branch, with load cells SANAS calibrated to 100 tons. Slings are pressed in house on seven hydraulic presses covering 1 mm to 56 mm, including a 1 500 ton press for 32 mm to 56 mm rope, and proof load tested on a 200 ton bench at Germiston. What factor of safety applies to a steel wire rope sling?
For slings supplied into South Africa, 6 to 1, meaning the minimum breaking load is six times the working load limit. That is the statutory factor under Driven Machinery Regulation 18. Slings built to international export specification carry a 5 to 1 factor. Confirm the destination market when ordering, because the rating differs.
Why do cable laid grommets carry 8 to 1?
A cable laid grommet is a different product from an eye and eye sling. It is an endless loop formed from one complete length of rope with no termination hardware, and it is rated at 8 to 1 under Driven Machinery Regulation 18. Where SANS or EN standards specify a different ratio, the statutory figure governs.
Can a steel wire rope sling be repaired?
No. A wire rope sling is not repairable. Undamaged hardware can be reused, and Toco recertifies slings that remain serviceable, but a damaged rope means a new sling.
How often must a sling be examined?
Under Driven Machinery Regulation 18, lifting tackle in use must be thoroughly examined at intervals not exceeding three months by a competent person. Toco carries out that examination and recertifies serviceable slings.
