Toco Lifting is the sole Southern African distributor of VITAL® lever hoists. These SANS/OSH Act approved heavy-duty hoists are ergonomically designed for maximum output efficiency and safe operation. An OLL (overload limiter) is fitted as standard. Lever hoists are portable lifting devices used in factories, mines, farms, construction sites, wharves, docks and warehouses for a wide variety of lifting and materials handling operations. Stocked capacities are 0.8 t, 1 t, 1.6 t, 3.2 t, 6.3 t and 9 t; other capacities are sourced on request.

Vital® lever hoists comply with SANS 1636 and are fitted with SANS 1592 load chain, with an OLL (overload limiter) fitted as standard. Each unit is supplied on a standard 3 metre lift and ships with a Performance (Load Test) Certificate. Toco carries out load testing and recertification in its own workshop under the oversight of an ECSA registered Lifting Machinery Inspector, and also supplies Vital® lever hoist spare parts.

Vital® lever hoists are stocked in 0.8 t, 1 t, 1.6 t, 3.2 t, 6.3 t and 9 t, supplied as standard on a 3 metre lift, with other lift heights chained to order. Other capacities are sourced on request and other lift heights are available.
Specification
Vital® lever hoists comply with SANS 1636, the South African standard for manual lever hoists, and are fitted with SANS 1592 load chain. An OLL (overload limiter) is fitted as standard, factory-set and not to be adjusted in the field. The lever handle carries a Vital® safety feature: a hole in the handle and a corresponding protrusion inside the grip that prevents the handle slipping out of the operator's hand during a pull.
Testing, certification and parts
A lever hoist can suspend a load and halt its motion when input energy stops, so it is a lifting machine and takes a Performance (Load Test) Certificate, also known as a Load Test Certificate. Toco carries out that testing in its own workshop under the oversight of an ECSA registered Lifting Machinery Inspector.

When would I use a lever hoist instead of a chain block?
A lever hoist is operated by ratcheting a side lever, which suits horizontal pulling, tensioning and lifts in tight spaces where a hand chain has nowhere to hang. A chain block is pulled by hand chain and suits longer vertical lifts. For tensioning, short pulls and awkward angles use a lever hoist.
Do Vital® lever hoists have an OLL (overload limiter)?
Yes. An OLL (overload limiter) is fitted as standard: no chain block or lever hoist leaves Toco without one. It is factory-set and must not be adjusted in the field.
Can Toco repair and recertify my Vital® lever hoist?
Yes. Toco repairs, load tests and recertifies Vital® lever hoists in its own workshop, with inspections carried out by an ECSA registered Lifting Machinery Inspector. Turnaround on Vital repairs is 24 hours. Genuine Vital® spare parts are supplied on request.
