Toco Lifting has supplied lifting, lashing and rigging equipment across South Africa and SADC since 2002 and is a registered Lifting Machinery Entity (LME No. 008).
Grade 30 extra long link chain is a general-purpose mild steel chain supplied by Toco Lifting across South Africa for industrial, agricultural and load-securing applications. As a registered Lifting Machinery Entity (LME No. 008), Toco supplies the chain and issues a Conformance Inspection Certificate against a 5:1 factor of safety under the OHS Act.
Toco Lifting holds Lifting Machinery Entity registration LME No. 008 under the Driven Machinery Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with technical oversight by Anton van Staden, an ECSA-registered Lifting Machinery Inspector (Reg. #201112078).
Grade 30 is a general-purpose mild steel chain — it is used for industrial and agricultural duties, securing and restraining loads, and general site work, rather than as an overhead lifting grade. The extra long link form gives a more open, longer pitch than short link chain, which suits applications where links need to pass over a profile or couple on site. Toco supplies it as a distributor of a broad chain range alongside higher-grade alloy lifting chain.
Steel chain is worked to a 5:1 factor of safety under DMR 18 of the OHS Act — the statutory figure that governs what is published in South Africa. This is the basis on which Toco rates and certifies the chain it supplies. Grade 30 is a general-purpose grade and is not a substitute for Grade 80 or Grade 100 alloy chain where overhead lifting at higher working loads is required.
Grade 30 chain is supplied with a Conformance Inspection Certificate. Under Toco’s certification taxonomy, items that cannot suspend or halt motion on their own — chain, slings, wire rope, shackles and lifting tackle — carry a Conformance Inspection Certificate, as distinct from the Performance (Load) Test Certificate issued for machines such as chain blocks and hoists. Toco issues the correct certificate for the equipment class under LME No. 008.
Grade 30 is mild steel for general-purpose duty; Grade 80 and Grade 100 are heat-treated alloy chains rated for overhead lifting at substantially higher working loads. If your application is sling assembly or overhead lifting, alloy chain is the correct choice. If you need a robust, cost-effective chain for restraint, securing or general industrial and agricultural use, Grade 30 extra long link chain is well suited. Toco supplies the full range and can advise on the right grade for the job.
Grade 30 extra long link chain is used across mining, construction, agriculture and general industry for load securing, restraint, fencing and general-purpose site work. Toco supplies chain and lifting tackle nationally and across the SADC region.
LME No. 008 · LEEASA Standard Member #LEEASA-SUB-00102 · COET Member #8000134 · ECSA-registered LMI Anton van Staden #201112078 · 5:1 factor of safety per DMR 18 · DMR 18(5) of the OHS Act, 1993.
No. Grade 30 is a general-purpose mild steel chain intended for securing, restraint and general industrial and agricultural use, not for overhead lifting. Overhead lifting requires heat-treated alloy chain such as Grade 80 or Grade 100. Toco supplies both and can advise on the correct grade for your application.
Extra long link chain has a longer, more open link pitch than short link chain. The longer link suits applications where the chain must pass over a profile, hook or sprocket, or couple on site, while short link chain is more compact. Both are supplied by Toco; the right choice depends on the application.
Toco works steel chain to a 5:1 factor of safety, the statutory figure under DMR 18 of the OHS Act in South Africa. The chain is rated and certified on this basis. For alloy lifting chain a different factor applies, and Toco confirms the correct rating per grade on enquiry.
Yes. Toco supplies Grade 30 chain with a Conformance Inspection Certificate, the correct certificate type for lifting tackle that cannot suspend or halt motion on its own. Toco is registered as LME No. 008 and issues certification matched to the equipment class.
Grade 30 extra long link chain is stocked in a range of sizes; the available diameters, lengths and working loads are confirmed on enquiry so we match the chain to your duty correctly. Contact the Toco team with your application and load requirement for current stock and ratings.
