Toco Lifting is approved by the Department of Labour as a Lifting Machinery Entity (LME No. 008), supplying certified Grade 100 alloy lifting chain across South Africa and all SADC markets since 2002.
Toco Lifting (Pty) Ltd supplies Grade 100 alloy lifting chain across South Africa and SADC at 1000 N/mm² and a 4:1 design factor under the EN 818 series, as bulk chain, cut to length, and as certified chain slings made up to order. Grade 100 carries a higher working load limit than Grade 80 at the same nominal chain diameter. Every length is supplied with a Mill Certificate, and Toco issues a Conformance Certificate and recertifies chain and slings within its LME 008 scope.

Toco Lifting is approved by the Department of Labour to undertake Conformance Inspections and Performance Testing (Load Testing) per approved SABS, SANS, or relevant OEM Standard. Toco has supplied and tested lifting, lashing and rigging equipment since 2002, operating from a Germiston head office and a Cape Town branch.
Toco supplies Grade 100 alloy lifting chain as bulk chain, cut to length, and made up into certified chain slings in single, two, three and four leg and endless configurations, assembled with matching Grade 100 components to the reach and working load limit the lift calls for. Grade 100 is the higher tensile grade in Toco’s alloy chain range, rated above Grade 80 for a higher working load limit at the same nominal diameter, which lets riggers run a lighter chain for a given duty. Diameters, finishes and assemblies are confirmed on enquiry, and Toco also stocks Grade 80 alloy chain (800 N/mm²) alongside Grade 100. The standard properties that define Grade 100 lifting chain under the EN 818 series are below.
| Specification | Grade 100 standard |
|---|---|
| Grade designation | Grade 100 (system 10) |
| Tensile grade | 1000 N/mm² |
| Material | Heat treated alloy steel (quenched & tempered) |
| Design factor | 4:1 |
| Minimum breaking load | 4 × working load limit (WLL) |
| Manufacturing proof force | 2.5 × WLL |
| Minimum elongation at failure | 20% |
| Governing standard | EN 818 series (adopted as the SANS 50818 series) |
Working load limits by chain diameter are confirmed on the certificate supplied with the chain. Contact Toco for the WLL of a specific size.
Toco makes Grade 100 chain up into certified slings in single and multiple leg and endless configurations, with shortening and connecting components matched to grade. Assemblies are built to a specified reach and rated WLL, tagged, and supplied certified. Grade 100 components are kept matched to grade through the assembly so the rated sling carries the Grade 100 duty end to end. Send the configuration and the duty and Toco will quote and make up to order.
Grade 100 chain is supplied with a Mill Certificate from the mill and a Conformance Certificate issued by Toco. Assembled chain slings are supplied with a Conformance Inspection Certificate, the certificate class for lifting tackle that cannot itself suspend or halt motion. They fall within Toco’s LME 008 testing scope, to be advised on enquiry. Under Driven Machinery Regulation 18, lifting tackle in use must be thoroughly examined at intervals not exceeding three months, and Toco inspects, tests and recertifies chain and chain slings as part of that scope.
Toco supplies Grade 100 chain and chain slings into a range of industrial sectors, made up to the configuration each lift calls for.
| Sector | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Mining | High duty lifting chain for plant maintenance, shaft and underground rigging |
| Oil and gas | Rigging and slinging of heavy plant and pipe spools on platforms and refineries |
| Overhead and mobile cranes | Lighter chain slings rated for heavy crane lifts at reduced sling weight |
Single, two, three and four leg and endless configurations are assembled to order with matching Grade 100 components, and used across many other heavy industrial applications.
